1.2 Preliminary tasks for new installations
There are several tasks that should be performed prior to installing
PMDF for the first time. These tasks are outlined below.
- Any existing SMTP server must be disabled, so that the PMDF SMTP
server may replace it. For instance, Windows 2000 Server and Advanced
Server do have a native SMTP server by default. To disable the Windows
2000 Server or Advanced Server native SMTP server:
- Go to Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel. Once the Control Panel
is open, open Administrative Tools and then open Services, select
Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), click STOP and set Startup Type
to disabled.
- Go to Start Menu, Programs, Administrative Tools, Services. Select
Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), click STOP and set Startup Type
to disabled.
- You should configure the NT Task Scheduler (also called the
Scheduler) so that it is run automatically. Go to the Start Menu,
Settings, Control Panel. Once the Control Panel is open, open
Administrative Tools and then open Services, select Task Scheduler (or
it may be called just Scheduler, depending upon your version of Windows
NT), click the Startup buttom and set it to Automatic.
