- If you have previously installed PMDF-TLS, you must shutdown the
PMDF detached processes that use PMDF-TLS before attempting to
reinstall or upgrade PMDF-TLS. Issue the command:
$ PMDF SHUTDOWN DISPATCHER
- Installation of PMDF-TLS should be done using the SYSTEM account to
ensure that the necessary privileges are available to complete the
installation. If you are not logged in oas SYSTEM, do so now.
- If this is your initial PMDF-TLS installation, register the
appropriate license PAK using the DCL LICENSE command or the
vmslicense.com procedure located in the
SYS$UPDATE: directory. You need a PAK for PMDF-TLS.
If you already have an existing PAK, you should check to make sure it
is valid for this release. Use the SHOW LICENSE command to check the
release date of the existing PAK, and make sure the date is later than
the release date of the new version of PMDF-TLS. New PAKs are issued
when your maintenance contract is renewed, not when new versions of
software are released. If you have received new PAKs at your renewal
time, you should register the new PAKs. First delete or disable the old
PAKs, then unload the old PAKs and load the new PAKs. For example, if
you received a new PMDF-TLS PAK, do the following:
$ @SYS$UPDATE:vmslicense
.
. [register the new PAK]
.
$ LICENSE DISABLE PMDF-TLS/PRODUCER=INNOSOFT/AUTHORIZATION=xxx
$ LICENSE DELETE PMDF-TLS/PRODUCER=INNOSOFT/AUTHORIZATION=xxx
$ LICENSE UNLOAD PMDF-TLS/PRODUCER=INNOSOFT
$ LICENSE LOAD PMDF-TLS
where xxx is the authorization number of the old
PAK. The last two steps, LICENSE UNLOAD and LOAD must be done on all
systems running PMDF-TLS and using the new PAKs.
- Begin the installation or update procedure by invoking the
VMSINSTAL command procedure as follows:
$ @SYS$UPDATE:vmsinstal
The following sort of VMSINSTAL message will be displayed:
VAX/VMS Software Product Installation Procedure V6.1
It is date at time.
Enter a question mark (?) at any time for help.
The first prompt asks you if you are satisfied with the backup of your
system disk. If you are not satisfied with the backup of either the
system disk or the disk on which PMDF is to be installed, you should
exit VMSINSTAL at this point and perform the backup. Otherwise just
press RETURN.
- VMSINSTAL now requests the location of the PMDF installation kit.
* Where will the distribution volume be mounted:
Enter the device or directory name containing the installation kit and
press RETURN.
- VMSINSTAL now prompts for the name of the product to be installed.
* Products:
Enter PMDFTLS060 for the domestic version
of PMDF-TLS or PMDFTLSE060 for the export
version of PMDF-TLS and then and press RETURN.
- VMSINSTAL prompts for installation options.
* Options:
No options are needed; simply press RETURN.
- The following messages are then displayed:
The following products will be processed:
PMDF-TLS V6.0
Beginning installation of PMDF-TLS V6.0 at time
%VMSINSTAL-I-RESTORE, Restoring product saveset A...
- The installation procedure asks if you have registered and loaded
the Product Authorization Key:
Product: PMDF-TLS
Producer: INNOSOFT
Version: 6.0
Release Date: date
* Does this product have an authorization key registered and loaded?
Type YES if you have already registered
and loaded the PMDF-TLS license PAK. If you have not already registered
and loaded the PMDF-TLS license PAK, then answer
NO now. Do not attempt to install
PMDF-TLS if you have not loaded your license PAKs. Do not upgrade
PMDF-TLS if you do not have an appropriate PMDF-TLS license PAK. An
appropriate license PAK will have a release date which is in the
future. Any version of PMDF-TLS released after the release
date of your PAK will not run.
- The installation procedure displays the following prompt:
* Do you want to purge files replaced by this installation [YES]?
Type NO if you do not wish to purge
replaced files. Press RETURN or type
YES if you want to purge files replaced
by this installation of PMDF-TLS.
- The installation procedure now continues with no further questions.
- If this is an upgrade of PMDF-TLS, you should now startup the
Dispatcher (previously shutdown before beginning the upgrade) to begin
using the new PMDF-TLS version. Issue the command:
$ PMDF STARTUP DISPATCHER
