This chapter gives the procedure for installing or upgrading to version 6.0 of PMDF¹, PMDF-MTA, PMDF-ACCESS, PMDF-DIRSYNC, PMDF-FAX, PMDF-LAN, PMDF-MB400, PMDF-MR, PMDF-MSGSTORE, PMDF-POPSTORE, PMDF-X400, and PMDF-XGS on an OpenVMS system. This procedure applies both to first time installations as well as to upgrades to existing installations.
If you are installing any PMDF add-on products (except PMDF-TLS), e.g., PMDF-DIRSYNC, PMDF-FAX, PMDF-LAN, PMDF-MB400, PMDF-MR, PMDF-MSGSTORE, PMDF-POPSTORE, PMDF-X400, or PMDF-XGS, they have been included with the base PMDF kit on your distribution media. PMDF-TLS is distributed separately; see Chapter 3 for a discussion of PMDF-TLS distribution. You will be asked during the installation procedure if the option should be installed along with PMDF. The PMDF-DIRSYNC, PMDF-FAX, PMDF-LAN, PMDF-MB400, PMDF-MR, PMDF-X400, and PMDF-XGS options cannot be installed separately from the base PMDF kit. (PMDF-POPSTORE and PMDF-MSGSTORE are installed automatically with the base PMDF kit, though they cannot be used for more than a few sample users unless you have and install a separate license for the respective layered product.) You will need additional Product Authorization Keys (PAKs) to activate the PMDF-DIRSYNC, PMDF-FAX, PMDF-LAN, PMDF-MB400, PMDF-MR, PMDF-MSGSTORE, PMDF-POPSTORE, PMDF-X400, and PMDF-XGS options. You can install one of the PMDF layered products even if you do not currently have a PAK for it; you just won't be able to use that layered product until you have registered and loaded the proper PAK. However, if you did not install the layered product during the first installation, and later decide to add the product, you have to install all products you use when you install for the layered product.
