1.2 Installations versus upgrades

The PMDF V56.0 installation procedure may be used to perform a new installation of PMDF V6.0 or to upgrade an existing PMDF V3.1, V3.2, V4.0, V4.1, V4.2, V4.3, V5.0, V5.1, or V5.2 release. The installation procedure may also be used to reinstall PMDF V6.0 over an existing PMDF V6.0.

Important note for sites upgrading to PMDF V6.0:

Owing to directory structure changes made to PMDF, sites upgrading to PMDF V6.0 from releases prior to V4.2 must pay careful attention to the post installation tasks detailed in Section 1.7 .

After PMDF is installed, use the automatic configuration generator to produce a configuration appropriate to your site. Use of the configuration generator is described in Chapter 5 .

When installed on top of an existing copy of PMDF, either V3.1, V3.2, V4.0, V4.1, V4.2, V4.3, V5.0, V5.1, V5.2, or V6.0, the new version simply replaces the old one while leaving the previous configuration information intact.
