The logging channel keyword, described in Section 2.3.4.84 , may be used with the MAILSERV channel to enable logging activity. Activity is logged in the PMDF mail log file. See Section 32.1 for a general description of this file. When logging is enabled, then in addition to normal channel enqueue and dequeue entries, the MAILSERV channel will also write a log entry for each command processed. The "type of entry" item in each such log file entry will be a single character selected from the set F, S:

Logging Code	Type	Description
F	Failure	Error processing command; command not executed
S	Success	Command successfully executed

The format of the log file entries for the MAILSERV channel command processing will be:

• The date the entry was made (e.g., "29-NOV-1990").
• The time the entry was made (e.g., "12:13:18").
• The name of the channel logging the entry ("mailserv").
• The beginning time and ending time of the execution of the command in HHMMSSHHMMSS format.
• The success (S) or failure (F) of the command.
• The "message size" field will always be zero, 0, for MAILSERV command entries.
• The envelope From: address of the originator of the message whose command is being executed.
• The MAILSERV command.
• The number of seconds spent processing the command.
