40.1 Structure of PMDF-MB400

PMDF-MB400 is implemented as a single PMDF channel named XAPI_LOCAL, responsible for converting between RFC 822 and MIME, the addressing format and message representation used by PMDF, and the P1/P2/P22 representation used by X.400. The conversion is performed by the X400_TO_MIME and MIME_TO_X400 executable programs which service the XAPI_LOCAL channel. These same two channel programs also manage the XAPI interface with MAILbus 400.

Note:

Unlike PMDF-X400, which uses a two step procedure and multiple channels, PMDF-MB400 uses only a single channel, XAPI_LOCAL, since it does not need to implement X.400 Reliable Transfer Service (RTS).

The PMDF-MB400 configuration utility¹ will create the file x400.chans in the PMDF table directory² containing the definition of the above-mentioned channel.

Note

¹ PMDF CONFIGURE MB400 on OpenVMS; pmdf configure mb400 on UNIX.

² PMDF_TABLE: on OpenVMS; /pmdf/table on UNIX.
