- If you have previously installed PMDF-TLS, you must shutdown the
PMDF detached processes that use PMDF-TLS before attempting to
reinstall or upgrade PMDF-TLS. Issue the command:
# pmdf shutdown dispatcher
- If you have previously installed PMDF-TLS, you must first deinstall
PMDF-TLS before attempting to reinstall or upgrade PMDF-TLS. To
deinstall PMDF-TLS, see Section 1.8 .
The following
discussion outlines the steps in the PMDF installation procedure. Refer
to Chapter 4 for a sample installation dialogue.
- Installation of PMDF-TLS should be done by superuser. If you are
not logged in as
root, do so now.
- If this is your initial PMDF-TLS installation, load the appropriate
license PAK using the License Management Facility,
lmf.
You need a PAK for PMDF-TLS-OSF. Note that PMDF-TLS CAN only be
licensed and installed on a system already licensed and configured for
PMDF-MTA or PMDF-ACCESS. If you already have existing PAKs, you should
check to make sure that they are valid for this release. Use the command
# lmf list full for PMDF-TLS-OSF
to check the release date of the existing PAK, and
make sure that the date displayed is later than the release date of the
new version of PMDF-TLS that you wish to install.¹
New PAKs are issued when your maintenance contract is renewed, not when
new versions of software are released. If you have received new PAKs at
your renewal time, you should register the new PAKs. First delete the
old PAKs; then register and load the new PAKs. For example, if you
received a new PMDF-TLS-OSF PAK, then the following commands would
start up an editor with which to edit the license information in the
License Database:
# lmf delete PMDF-TLS-OSF
# lmf register
After registering all the new information on your license PAKs, you
must then load the PAKs. You may either load any required PAK
individually, e.g.,
# lmf load 0 PMDF-TLS-OSF
or you can instead load all PAKs at once by issuing the command
# lmf reset
- Begin the installation procedure by invoking the
setld
command procedure as shown below.
# cd /
# setld -l location
where location specifies the location of the PMDF
subsets. To stop the installation procedure at any time, use
Ctrl/C. Note, however, that if the installation procedure is
terminated forcibly via Ctrl/C, then any files created by
the installation up to the point where Ctrl/C was pressed
will not be deleted, and therefore you must delete any such files
manually.
- After
setld is invoked, it will ask you to select the
subset to install:
The subsets listed below are optional:
There may be more optional subsets than can be presented on a single
screen. If this is the case, you can choose subsets screen by screen
or all at once on the last screen. All of the choices you make will
be collected for your confirmation before any subsets are installed.
1) PMDF V6.0-21 TLS Product
Or you may choose one of the following options:
2) ALL of the above
3) CANCEL selections and redisplay menus
4) EXIT without installing any subsets
Enter your choices or press RETURN to redisplay menus.
Choices (for example, 1 2 4-6):
At this last prompt, you should enter the number 1. After
you enter your selection, a confirmation message will be displayed.
Enter y followed by RETURN if the selection is
correct. Otherwise, enter n followed by RETURN;
in this case the subset selection menu will again be displayed, and you
may correct your choice of subsets.
- After you confirm your selection of subsets, the installation
procedure will continue with no further questions, displaying
informational messages as it progresses. Please note that such
informational messages regarding "configuring" the PMDF-TLS
subset refer solely to the installation process; the configuration of
PMDF-TLS itself is a separate function entirely, which remains to be
performed as presented in the PMDF System Manager's Guide .
- If this is an upgrade of PMDF-TLS, you should now startup the
Dispatcher (previously shutdown before beginning the upgrade) to begin
using the PMDF-TLS version. Issue the command:
# pmdf startup dispatcher
Note
¹ PMDF license PAKs, and in particular
PMDF-TLS license PAKs, do not use a termination date; they instead use
a release date. The release date merely prevents you from running newer
versions of PMDF released after your maintenance contract has expired.
The PAKs do not prevent your current versions of PMDF from running
after your maintenance contract has expired. This is intentional.
