PMDF Installation Guide
OpenVMS Edition
13.1 Before You Begin
Prior to running the PMDF-MB400 configuration utility you must have
installed PMDF-MTA with PMDF-MB400 support and have configured
PMDF-MTA. Refer to Chapters 1 through 4 if you
have not already installed and configured PMDF-MTA. If you had
previously installed PMDF-MTA without PMDF-MB400 support and now want
to add PMDF-MB400, then you need to reinstall PMDF and this time select
the PMDF-MB400 option during the reinstallation. Note that installation
of PMDF-MB400, or indeed reinstallation of PMDF-MTA and all related
option products, will not adversely affect your existing
configuration; you will not need to reconfigure PMDF after
reinstalling.
You should also have installed and configured the MAILbus 400 Message
Transfer Agent (MTA) prior to attempting to connect to it with
PMDF-MB400. Refer to your MAILbus 400 documentation.
The PMDF-MB400 configuration utility will prompt for several pieces of
required information. You should be prepared to provide the following:
- The domain name for the PMDF-MB400 gateway. This is the domain name
that originators on the PMDF side of the gateway will use to direct
messages through PMDF-MB400 into MAILbus 400.
- The X.400 Originator-Recipient name, or ORname, for your PMDF-MB400
gateway. This consists of the various fields of an X.400 address that
remote MAILbus 400 users will specify when they originate messages
intended for recipients that are reachable on the PMDF side of your
PMDF-MB400 gateway. Whenever PMDF-MB400 receives a message from MAILbus
400, ORnames containing these fields will be recognized and passed to
PMDF for further delivery. The ORname fields that can be specified are,
in order:
- Country
- Administrative Mail Domain
- Private Mail Domain
- Organization
- up to four Organizational Units
The Country field must be specified; all other fields are optional.
- The MAILbus 400 client name. This will be sent by PMDF-MB400 any
time that a connection with MAILbus 400 is established. The connection
will be rejected or the wrong messages retrieved if the name does not
match what MAILbus 400 is expecting to see.
