13.2 Using the PMDF-MB400 Configuration Utility

This section presents a step-by-step procedure for generating the PMDF-MB400 configuration files using the PMDF-MB400 configuration utility, PMDF CONFIGURE MB400. Refer to Chapter 14 for a sample configuration dialogue.

  1. Configuration of PMDF-MB400 should be done using the SYSTEM account to ensure that the necessary privileges are available to create the configuration files. If you are not logged in as SYSTEM, do so now.
  2. Begin the configuration procedure by invoking the PMDF CONFIGURE MB400 utility as follows:

    $ SET DEFAULT PMDF_TABLE:
    $ PMDF CONFIGURE MB400

  3. The configuration procedure will optionally print out detailed explanations of each prompt as it proceeds. Unless you are conversant with the procedure, you should enable the detailed output.
  4. The answers to all the prompts are logged to the file mb400_configure.history in the PMDF_TABLE: directory. After the first configuration, PMDF CONFIGURE MB400 can use the answers to the previous run as the default answers.
  5. Closely examine the example configuration presented in Chapter 14. Some of that configuration is probably similar to your own. The sample site continues the example presented in Figure 4-1, adding a MAILbus 400 gateway to the NAPLES system.
  6. Once you have completed running PMDF CONFIGURE MB400, print out the PMDF_TABLE:mb400.checklist PMDF_TABLE:mb400.checklist file and complete the configuration by following the steps outlined in the checklist.
